WHO AM I?
Hi! I'm Keira. I am originally from Swansea, South Wales. I am currently based in Manchester, in my third year of Filmmaking at Manchester Metropolitan University.
My passion for filmmaking began with photography, capturing expressive photos that explored themes of identity and storytelling through this creative outlet. This passion extended further into abstract poetic short films, sharing a message that shapes what the world has to say through my writing and exploring my creative vision.
When I joined university, I began to explore roles within the industry. Falling into the role of sound designer for a short film, my passion and love for sound grew quickly, with a shift in my mindset for the future. Audio recording, mixing levels, and time spent in the Foley suite became instinctive to me, understanding and learning the bread and butter for sound design. Now, I am passionately working on developing my career in sound, and I love creating an auditory world that immerses the audience to experience the film, not just watch it.
Most importantly, I have an ear for detail. Each shot matters. I focus on the smaller picture, leaning into crafting foley and recording clear dialogue that complements the story. I have specialised in sound for two years now, still learning and growing in my skills, but with a fresh mindset for the sound department to be shaped into the next generation of filmmakers. I absolutely love creating films that push boundaries - let's make a character come to life through sound, let's craft equipment to make a particular sound, let's try something completely different and if it doesn't work, at least we tried! What's filmmaking without putting your skills to the test?
One sound designer that heavily influences my work is Nicolas Becker, as he builds his soundscape from scratch into the world of cinema. Sound of Metal (2019) is a true representation of the importance of sound design. It's the craft that tells a meaningful story.
I have credits as head of sound department, audio recordist and foley artist in various student films and small budget feature films. These films have shaped me as an artist, helping me to understand the craft and overcome obstacles that I will be faced with in the professional industry.
I am proud to say that Overgrown has been nominated for two film festivals, Cinemagic Film Festival, which was awarded as highly commended and Cardiff Mini Film Festival (BIFA and BAFTA Cymru qualifying).
I have also worked alongside Oxygen Films and Fuzzyhead Productions as their head of sound department in two small budget feature films - Folk (2026) and The Commonplace (2026).
I am excited to see where my career will lead me, and looking forward to expanding my skills as a sound designer.
Thanks, Keira x
